Our classes are taught by Grahame Tinsley, a 5th degree black belt with over 20 years teaching experience, fully insured and DBS checked.

Teaching philosophy

First and foremost, we are a Martial Art not a sport. Hence, we accord it the respect due to a Martial Art. Students are expected to obey certain rules of courtesy and good behaviour. We teach Chinese Martial Arts in a traditional and sincere manner, but with constant regard to practical requirements. Whilst we do not propose to ignore tradition and aesthetics just to be practical, neither do we wish to be slaves to tradition and disregard practical purposes and situations.

Classes are open to children and adults and are two hours long, of mixed ability, ages and sexes. They begin with a warm up, which will include cardiovascular exercises, followed by specific stretching and body conditioning.

Training then moves onto learning kung fu techniques. Shaolin Kung is a martial art which uses a broad range of techniques and we incorporate a variety of different training methods. This could be self-defence techniques, paired pad workblocks and counterattacking strikes, grasping and grappling techniques, breathing exercisestakedowns, classical Chinese forms, including animal forms and traditional weapons training, including the staff, spear, broadsword, butterfly knives, trident and halberd.

Training sessions conclude with a cool down session to slow the heart rate and prevent stiffness in joints and muscles.
